The Arrival of Milly
Daniel Sutherst
23 Mar 2016

Today was a special day in the Sutherst household. We finally picked up Milly, our very own Cockapoo Puppy!

We’ve deliberated over whether or not to bring a cockapoo puppy into our lives several times now and we had previously decided against it because “it wasn’t the right time”. But since Jack, our youngest child was now that little bit older (and bigger) we decided he could be trusted around a little puppy and better yet he was a lovely age to create a strong bond with a family dog.

We had decided fairly early on that a Cockapoo was the perfect breed for us. They are intelligient, loving, playful, socialable dogs and they don’t moult which was an added bonus as we already had Oscar our cat that filled our vacuum!

We managed to find a lovely breeder not too far from where we live and had received pictures of the last two puppies she had yet to find homes for. We instantly fell in love with Milly and arranged to visit her the very next day!

The kids on the drive down were very excitable and I couldn’t help but feel the same, although there was a little but of anxiety creeping in, what happens if Milly doesn’t like us? Or is Jack is going to get too excited and cuddle her too tight!?

Shortly after we arrived though all our fears were put to rest as Milly was completely calm around all the family. We all sat on the floor and she would come over to climb on our legs and let us stroke her. We soon realised that she was a lovely natured puppy and arranged to come back the next weekend to pick her up!

The next weekend soon arrived and we all woke up that little bit earlier than usual, it felt like Christmas Day!! We got the boys in the car and set off. I recall on the journey down there we were all discussing what her name should be, the options ranged from Scooby (Thanks Joshua!) to more suitable dog names but we still just couldn’t agree.

After we arrived, we all went straight to Milly to say “Hi” and before we knew it we had her back in the car travelling home. She soon relaxed on Joshua’s lap with some help of a snuggly blanket and some comforting cuddles from Joshua and Jack.

When we got home we put her straight out on the front garden to have a play and it didn’t take her long before we saw her very first DOODLE DASH!!! I’m not sure if the boys were chasing her or Milly was chasing the boys but it was lovely to see so early on that they all were having fun!

In the excitement I grabbed my camera and started to take some shots of Millys first exploration of the garden. I just hoped I hade plugged all the gaps in the hedge! It turned out that she’s a little poser and didn’t at all mind me taking some portrait shots. She pranced around the garden in the sun without a care in the world which is more than I could have hoped for.

Since that first day she has grown up into a lovely family companion and is close by my side wherever I go. We had the odd wobble with her training, as most do, but she’s been a pleasure to live with and settled into our family life extremely well. She gets a little over excitement with Oscar the cat and gets put in her place from time to time but they too share a close bond (when they both calm down). I’ve never regretted the decision to bring Milly into our lives, my only regret is that we didn’t do it sooner!

Relaxed Pet Portrait Sessions

People say don't work with animals and children but I obviously don't agree! I'm an animal lover and pet owner myself, so understand how to work with the them to get the best images from the session.

I aim to provide a friendly and relaxed experience for both owner and pet, which allows everyone to enjoy the photoshoot.

I have travelled to many different locations around the North East for photoshoots and just love working with new customers in different locations. All my packages include a shoot tailored to you, so if there is that one special location you have fond memories of then why not capture those memories.
